Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte was suspended for 14 months on Monday for receiving an intravenous infusion, which violated anti-doping rules; authorities discovered about the infusion after Lochte shared a photo of it on social media.
Lochte, 33, was not utilizing a prohibited substance, but was receiving intravenous infusions in excess of 100 mL within a 12-hour period, according to US officials. Anti-doping regulations state that athletes can only obtain IVs through hospital treatment.
"A subsequent investigation by USADA, with which Lochte completely cooperated," the US Anti-Doping Agency said in a press release.
