New York Fashion Week (NYFW) is a series of events that takes place twice yearly in the months of February and September. These events typically last between seven and nine days and are when international fashion collections are presented to buyers, members of the press, and the general public. It is considered to be one of the "Big 4" fashion weeks, along with those held in Paris, London, and Milan. These four fashion weeks are considered to be the most important in the world. Although locations such as London were already utilizing their city's name in connection with the terms fashion week in the 1980s, the contemporary concept of a centralized "New York Fashion Week" was founded by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) in 1993. The New York Fashion Week is modeled after a far more established series of activities known as "Press Week," which was established in 1943.
